Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj is a UGC Professor in the
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka and the Director of the
Centre for Bioinformatics Learning Advancement and Systematic Training (cBLAST). She is a leading researcher in plant and agricultural biochemistry and molecular biology, with a primary focus on understanding the mechanisms of salt tolerance in plants, particularly rice. Her work spans several critical areas, including the characterization of traditional rice varieties for natural salt tolerance, the development and application of DNA markers for marker-assisted breeding, the genetic transformation of rice for enhanced salt tolerance, the exploration of wild halophytic rice as a genetic resource, and the use of rhizobacteria and endophytes to promote plant growth. Dr. Seraj maintains active research collaborations with prominent national and international institutions such as BRRI, NIB, BCSIR, Jagannath University, IUB, ICDDR,B, and the Universities of Texas at Austin and Arizona. Through her research and mentorship, she continues to make significant contributions to sustainable agriculture and crop resilience in salt-affected regions.
